The Cold Chain

Bamic Import & Export supplies thermally insulated products for use from the beginning to the end of the Cold Chain. This superb quality range is designed and manufactured from high-tech, extremely durable materials by a leading European and South African manufacturers.

The Cold Chain distribution process is an extension of good manufacturing (GMP) procedures. No distributor of perishable food or pharmaceutical products can afford to ignore the Cold Chain if they are serious about adherence to international best practice.

The most critical weaknesses in the Cold Chain happen at the loading and off-loading points. These are both aspects where the most common break in the Cold Chain occurs.

  • The Cold Chain is the uninterrupted series of storage, distribution and    logistical activities which maintain a given temperature range
  • It is used to ensure and extend the shelf life of any perishable product be it food, pharmaceutical or biological
  • The Cold Chain starts with cold or temperature controlled storage of perishables
  • It continues as the frozen or chilled stock is palletised, containerised or packed on roll-tainers
  • These are then transported in temperature controlled vehicles or containers
  • Delivered to its destination, it is stored in a temperature controlled environment
  • It is purchased by consumers
  • And finally arrives at the home fridge or freezer prior to consumption
  • The Cold Chain should be managed by a quality management system (QMS) where it must be analysed, measured, controlled, documented and validated
  • The Cold Chain can best be summed up as the temperature controlled supply chain
